Wet and wild weather is thrashing the upper North Island

Wet and wild weather is thrashing the upper North Island

A heavy rain warning and strong wind watch apply in Northland, where more than 15-hundred homes have lost power, and multiple roads have been closed.

130 millimetres of rainfall was recorded overnight in Kaeo and the river's hit a warning level for State Highway 10.

Auckland and the Coromandel also have similar warnings and watches.

MetService meteorologist Alec Holden says the Gisborne District is in for heavy rain later today.

He says they're expecting up to 100 millimetres of rain, especially north of Gisborne City.
