Parents are being warned of asthma-related hospitalisations this back-to-school period

Parents are being warned of asthma-related hospitalisations this back-to-school period

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation says hospitalisations from attacks are at their highest in week three of Term 1, more than in winter.

One in eight New Zealand children are affected, and also make up one third of all respiratory-related hospitalisations.

Chief executive Letitia Harding says risk factors include exposure to different allergens, and changes in emotions like stress and anxiety.

She says it's important kids ensure they have preventer medication and reliever inhaler at school, and they haven't expired.
