The number of unemployed people in New Zealand is on the rise

The number of unemployed people in New Zealand is on the rise

Latest Stats NZ figures show the unemployment rate increased to 5.1 percent in the December quarter.

That's up from 4.8-percent in the September quarter.

Economists had predicted this, saying it's a result of last year's slower economic activity.

Annual salary and wage inflation sits at 3.3-percent.
