While Georgia Heffernan and Filda Vui are specialist goal attacks, Martina Salmon, Saviour Tui and Amelia Walmsley have played both.
Taurua says they need multiple options.
Walmsley is unavailable to face South Africa after being named in New Zealand's Youth World Cup squad.
A squad of up to 18 players will be named on Monday.
