Tasman residents who evacuated two weeks ago, are being asked to do so again now

Tasman residents who evacuated two weeks ago, are being asked to do so again now

An Emergency Mobile Alert has gone out, and the area is under a red heavy rain warning.

A state of emergency's in place in Nelson-Tasman with emergency operations centres activated.

Civil Defence Controller Alec Louverdis says the people at highest risk, are the ones worst affected by the last round of bad weather.

The evacuation notice applies to those near rivers between Tapawera and Riwaka, Wakefield and Brightwater, the low-lyng Moutere Valley, and those feeling unsafe.

Nelsons access to the West Coast has been cut, as slips and flooding closes SH6 from Belgrove to Kohatu.

State Highway60 Cooks Corner and Rocks Road has also been closed.
