Tom Odell has tried to perform a concert in Ukraine amid the ongoing war

The 34-year-old singer was eager to play a concert in the war-torn country, but his plans fell apart at the last minute

He told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "We have got close to going. I was meant to go this year. We were going to do it but it became too much. The security situation is so complicated and so we couldn't.

"It has been a difficult line to tread because I feel very supportive of them. But I don't know anything more than anybody else and, also, I don't ever want to come across as opportunistic. I am trying to support where I can."

Despite this, Tom still hopes to perform in Ukraine one day.

He shared: "That would be great. We have played in Kyiv a bunch of times before the war and so I have this connection with the place."

Tom's hit single Another Love actually became a symbol of Ukraine's resilience during the war. And the singer previously admitted to being amazed by the song's success amid the ongoing conflict in eastern Europe.

Tom told NPR: "Was it Shakespeare that said his job was holding a mirror to the world? That's a wonderful way to put it. Holding a mirror up to the world.

"I would say the best art tells you something you have known your whole life, but needed reminded of. That's what the best art to me is anyway. But I guess art will always have multiple uses.

"It's been both saddening and inspiring to see my song Another Love getting used by Ukrainians on social media to express their love for their country, and their anger!

"None of the lyrics have anything to do with Ukraine, but there must be something there, between the lines, between the notes of the melody, that resonates with their suffering. I'm so humbled by that.

"The best we can do as musicians or artists is just create something honest to us, and the world will do the rest."
