A high-ranking general in Russia's military has been shot and hospitalised following an attack in Moscow

Lieutenant general Vladimir Alexeyev was shot in a block of flats on the outskirts of the capital.

The BBC reports Alexeyev has played a significant role in the four-year war with Ukraine.

No one has yet taken responsibility for the shooting but Ukraine has claimed some attacks on Russian military leaders in the past.
