A father has been fatally attacked by a shark while surfing off Sydney's Northern Beaches

A father has been fatally attacked by a shark while surfing off Sydney's Northern Beaches

57-year-old Mercury Psillakis was left with horrific injuries and died after being pulled to shore by other surfers yesterday morning.

He'd only been in the water for about half an hour and was about 100 meters from shore.

Witness Mark Morgenthal told Sky News about the moment he saw the tragic events unfold.

He says he saw the man screaming at the shark - which he described as around six meters long.
