    MetService is forecasting severe weather to batter the North Island's East Coast this weekend


    A heavy rain warning been issued for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, with weather predicted to ramp up by late-morning.

    Meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane says thunderstorms are possible.

    She says locals can expect floods, slips, and difficult driving conditions.
