Jodie Foster finds working with female directors to be a "really amazing" experience

The 63-year-old actress predominantly worked with male filmmakers earlier in her career, and she often found it to be a fairly tedious experience.

The Hollywood star told Variety: "My relationship [with male directors] is kind of simple. You tell me; you want it; I do it."

By contrast, Jodie has found working with female filmmakers to be much more exciting.

Speaking about the differences, she explained: "It is much more complex.

"I get more irritated. There's a thing we have to figure out. With women, these boundaries are fuzzy."

Jodie has also become more choosy about her film projects over time.

The movie star said: "I look for: How can I serve a story? What can I bring to the table to get from A to D?"

Jodie is constantly looking for new and exciting challenges in her career.

She explained: "I'm not interested in repeating the same things I did that are very iconic central figures. I did that, and it's great. It's so much fun to be older and have a more nuanced route to things. I don't have to hold the movie's moral weight on my shoulders."

Meanwhile, back in 2017, Jodie claimed that the gender bias in Hollywood was as strong as ever.

The actress explained at the time that she'd never "made a movie that was about women, made by women, that was seen through women's eyes".

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar magazine, Jodie reflected: "Even with the number of movies I've made, I've never made a movie that was about women, made by women, that was seen through women's eyes ...

"I was saying recently that there was a time in my life, for 15 or 20 years, during which every single script I read, the motivation for the female character was that they had been raped or abused as a child."
