Aucklanders appear to be taking more care out on the water - ahead of this Anniversary weekend

Aucklanders appear to be taking more care out on the water - ahead of this Anniversary weekend

70 people have died in water-related incidents across New Zealand this summer - 16 involving the likes of boats and jetskis.

Auckland Transport says boaties heading out this weekend should have sufficient life jackets for everyone on board, stick to speed restrictions, and carry a communication device.

The Harbourmaster's Operations Manager Marc Davis says they've seen really good compliance this summer.

She says there's always going to be room for improvement - but the message is definitely getting through.
