Young people have been New Zealand's best savers through lockdown

A survey of half a million ASB customers shows increasing average cash balances since lockdowns began in 2020.

It's contributed to a six percent increase in overall financial wellbeing.

ASB Chief Executive Vittoria Shortt says average cash balances of 18 to 24 year olds rose 600 dollars ... or nine percent ... in September.

Across the same period. all other age groups had an average about five percent lift.
