More than 50 firefighters and 15 fire trucks are dealing with the fire near Garlands Road.
A plume of thick smoke is still coming from the fire, which can be seen right across the city -- and the intensity of the fire is glowing a bright orange several metres into the air.
Fire and Emergency says it's making progress, but the fire is likely to continue burning well into today.
Cordons will remain in place in the immediate area near Cumnor Terrace, including on Garlands Road and Marshall Street.
Officials are asking people to avoid the area and allow firefighters to work safely.
People should stay out of the smoke, and any properties in the vicinity of this area should keep all windows and doors closed.
