Olivia Rodrigo accidentally followed her ex-boyfriend while "stalking" his Instagram account

The 20-year-old singer's public page doesn't usually follow anyone else but in summer 2022, she briefly connected with Joshua Bassett's account, and though fans speculated at the time she had been hacked, she admitted she accidentally clicked the 'Follow' button

Appearing on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on Thursday (07.12.23), she said: "I try to follow zero people because it helps me be off of my phone, you know, off of social media.

"There was this very embarrassing encounter once where I was stalking my ex, as one does, sue me, I'm sorry. And I accidentally followed him because I was stalking him. I was just following one person so it was super obvious that I was following him and my friend ran into my room like, 'Oh my god, did you mean to follow him?! Unfollow him!'"

Things then got worse for the 'Bad Idea Right?' hitmaker because her phone battery ran out before she could unfollow her former boyfriend without anyone noticing what had happened.

She continued: "And I went and grabbed my phone and I went to open the Instagram app and the second I opened the app, my phone died. I couldn't find a charger so I was just following my ex for a while. It was quite embarrassing."

Olivia was relieved when concerned fans just assumed she had had her account hacked.

She said: "People were like, 'Oh my gosh, she's hacked,' and I'm like, 'Yeah you guys, be safe!'"

Olivia has clearly learned from the mishap because she recently admitted she also has a fake Instagram to "stalk" her crushes.

She told The Face magazine: "I do [have a fake Instagram] but nothing's on it. I just use it to stalk my crushes.

"I'm so good at finding stuff out about people on social media. It's one of my favourite pastimes."
