KiwiRail has spoken out on it's role in Auckland's trains fiasco over the past couple of days

KiwiRail has spoken out on it's role in Auckland's trains fiasco over the past couple of days

In a statement, General Manager Metros Jon Knight says heat restrictions only apply to areas where maintenance work has just been completed, or is still required

He says the heat restrictions that caused cancellations yesterday and today, were applied to 4.4 kilometres of tracks between Otahuhu and Papakura, that have not yet been upgraded.

They were not needed for other parts of the network - where repairs were carried out over Christmas.

Knight says the service cancellations are the decision of Auckland One Rail and Auckland Transport, and KiwiRail respects their right to improve reliability for Aucklanders.
