The Government's urging our national carrier and largest airport to get back around the table, to settle their latest public stoush

The Government's urging our national carrier and largest airport to get back around the table, to settle their latest public stoush

Air New Zealand is asking the Government to look into Auckland Airport's redevelopment plans, claiming they'll make airfares five times more expensive by 2032.

But the airport says its fees only make up a tiny proportion of fares, and the Government needs to instead, look into the airline's dominant market position.

Commerce Minister Andrew Bayly says the Commerce Commission is already reviewing airport pricing decisions, but he's meeting with both sides, to urge them to talk the matter through.

He says there's always a pinch point between improving airport facilities and keeping costs down.
