All Blacks and Crusaders great Dan Carter's backing David Havili to make a smooth transition from the midfield to first five

The 29-year-old will make just his second start in the 10 jersey at Super Rugby level on Saturday against the Reds in Christchurch.

The positional switch has come with the support of All Blacks coach Scott Robertson.

Carter says Havili has the skill-set and temperament to flourish in the new role.
