A high-profile negotiator is supporting a new approach in the search for Marokopa man Tom Phillips

There are calls to work with the man, whose been on the run with his three children for three years.

An appeal from the kids' mother, and a reward, have both proved unsuccessful.

Negotiator Lance Burdett told 1News a negotiator should get the four out in a way they're all comfortable with - even if that includes keeping contact between Phillips and his kids.

He says separating them immediately would cause more harm than good.
