Unemployment's hit its highest point in four years

Unemployment's hit its highest point in four years

Stats NZ says the unemployment rate rose to 5.1-percent in 2024's fourth quarter - as expected.

That's up from 4.8-percent in the three months to September.

The Herald's Liam Dann says it's a level not reached since late-2020.

He says that's 33-thousand more unemployed people, to a total of 156-thousand in the year to December.
