A construction analyst claims Kainga Ora paid three times the market price for a dozen Canterbury units

The Government's reviewing state housing stock - taking aim at its pricing.

Its review has found Kainga Ora paid about 12-percent more for building houses, when compared to the market.

Construction sector advisor Mike Blackburn says 12 units in Burnside were given the consented price of more than 8500 dollars per square metre last year.

He says the median consented value in Canterbury is 2800 dollars a square metre.
