Taylor Swift has been "watching football whenever she can" to brush up on her knowledge of the game

The 'Blank Space' singer has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since summer 2023 and is a regular fixture at his games, but the NFL star's dad, Ed Kelce, admitted she "didn't know" much about the sport in the early days of their romance so he is impressed with how much time and effort she has put into improving her understanding

Speaking on Australia's 'Today' show, he said: "She's learning much more about football. She's watching football with her dad a lot. She's watching football whenever she can.

"It was funny. We're sitting in the game and the Chiefs were in the in the red zone. And they had... to go for a field goal. And I'm sitting there thinking, 'I hate field goals.' And Taylor comes back and says, 'I'll take the points.'

"And I'm thinking, 'look at you... a year ago you didn't know a field goal from an extra point, and now you're doing all this football talk.' So I think she's enjoying the game and she's a very smart young lady.

"She's just a joy to be around."

With Taylor's 'Eras' tour having come to an end December after 21 months and Travis' season coming to a close, Ed predicted the couple have a "very good" few months ahead.

He said: "I think, you know, once we get past the Super Bowl, I think it's going to be a very good period of time for the two of them. Without the NFL season, without the Eras tour. Just them alone really connecting more. I think that can only be a good thing."

But he dodged any questions about a possible engagement between the pair.

When Karl Stefanovic - who hosts the programme with Sarah Abo - joked he needed to know the wedding date so he could "book his fare", Ed smiled: "Okay, good. Did you really think I was going to come up with that?"

And the patriarch also wouldn't confirm any speculation that the 'Fortnight' hitmaker will give a surprise performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday (09.02.25), when Travis' team will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Asked about the possibility, he said: "I wouldn't, I have no idea. I haven't talked to Taylor this week. I have no idea what her plans are. I would let her publicist talk to you about that."
