Violence and protests at Auckland Pride events yesterday

Destiny Church protesters wearing Man Up t-shirts broke through police barricades separating the Pride Parade from thousands of onlookers on Ponsonby Road during the evening.

That followed a violent display at the Te Atatu Library during the afternoon, where a rainbow-friendly children's show was taking place.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown's called the afternoon display unacceptable - saying there's absolutely no place for thuggery.
