A woman who burned down her Wairarapa accommodation when asked to leave, has been jailed for nine years

A woman who burned down her Wairarapa accommodation when asked to leave, has been jailed for nine years

Maya Moore lit eight fires causing millions of dollars in damage at properties near Greytown in 2022.

She'd been living on one of the farms, and grazing her small herd of cows at the other.

Relations with both owners soured, and on the night of the fires, she told a neighbour "no one's going to be safe".

She stuffed 50-year-old tyres with fabric and, with accelerant, set them alight.

Moore refused to engage in her sentencing, turning her back as she dialled in remotely from Wellington's Arohata prison.
