Napier Port's Chief Executive says he's pleased the government is addressing future of Auckland's port

A Government-commissioned working group has recommended moving operations to Northport, near Whangarei.

Todd Dawson says from an economic and supply chain perspective - it'll add cost into the supply chain for importers and exporters.

But he says there's more work to do.

He says more macroeconomic planning around investment and infrastructure at ports is required.
