Dove Cameron's former fiance has accused her of being unfaithful to him

The 24-year-old actress split from her former 'Liv and Maddie' co-star Ryan McCartan in October 2016, just six months after they got engaged, and though it was never revealed why they had gone their separate ways, the 26-year-old actor has now spoken of how "proud" he is of himself for overcoming a difficult period in his life when he felt very ill shortly after his engagement had ended

In a Q&A on his Instagram Story, Ryan was asked his proudest moment and replied: "Within two weeks, my fiancée cheated on and left me, I almost died from food poisoning, and Donald Trump was elected president. I truly didn't think I would be able to make it through that part of my life.

"I'm proudest of the light that came from the darkness.

"And my ability to survive and turn the anger and sadness I had into positive life changes and a new way forward."

Dove - who has been dating Thomas Doherty since 2017 - hasn't directly addressed Ryan's accusation but shared a cryptic tweet that seemed to allude to the situation.

She shared a picture of a quote which read: "When a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others see you. The misinformation will feel unfair, but stay above it, trusting that other people will eventually see the truth just like you did."

    She captioned the post: "Beautiful."

The 'Descendants' star also liked a number of tweets in support of her current relationship.

And Dove took to her own Instagram Story to discuss how positive she is feeling.

She said: "This new decade, 2020 specifically, and my 24th year feels so synergistic and perfect, I can't even put it into words.

"It's been years since I've felt this good, this capable, this strong and this connected, in general and in terms of my relationship with myself. I've been so disillusioned and lost, so dark and so sad, and I only now feel like I'm beginning to find the magic again.

"It has been and will continue to be a long road with the work solely in my own hands, and I will always leave room for more growth and connection with my higher self (and therapy), but I suddenly feel it again.

"This is fresh. I feel like I'm ready to start showing up for life again.

    "Here's to new beginnings, and some true f***ing self-care. 2020, we've arrived."

When Dove and Ryan split over three years ago, the actor laid the blame for their separation at her feet.

He tweeted at the time: "Dove has decided this relationship isn't what she wants. We still love each other very much. Please be sensitive, as this is painful."
