Police have been forced to apologise after incorrectly saying a person had died following a collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle in Taupo

The crash occurred on Friday - and police made the announcement yesterday.

In fact, the person remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Police say they sincerely apologised to the person, their family and friends and others involved in the collision.

They acknowledge the incorrect release of this information was distressing for those involved.
