The mother of a Canterbury University student hospitalised with meningococcal is angry she wasn't vaccinated for all strains of the illness

The mother of a Canterbury University student hospitalised with meningococcal is angry she wasn't vaccinated for all strains of the illness

The 18-year-old is now recovering at Christchurch Hospital.

It's recommended all students are vaccinated before moving into the University accommodation, and the student's mother believed she was.

She says her daughter was given one vaccination by an Auckland medical centre last year, which only protects against some, not all, meningococcal strains.
