Mariah Carey is "not really a tinsel fan"

The 54-year-old singer is known for her love of Christmas and she's shared her "slays and nays" for the festive season, including how she prefers to dress her evergreen

She told People magazine "I'm not really a fan of artificial trees [but] it's all the way you decorate it and the love you put into the room.

"I like popcorn garlands. Slay - especially with cranberries and popcorn.

"[Tree skirts] can be cute. It's all about the way they're zhuzhed. You got to zhuzh them properly.

"Tinsel, nay. I am not really a tinsel fan. But I don't want to take that away from other people because it's fun. You could throw it at people. It's fun for a moment."

Mariah also isn't a lover of outdoor decorations.

She said: "If they have, like, a cute lamb or something like that, it's more for the pool. I would go with that."

The 'Fantasy' hitmaker admitted she likes to don matching festive pyjamas with her children, 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, who she has with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

She said: "I do that. I love that. I think it's cute."

But the family won't be cosying up to watch Hallmark holiday movies, though Mariah acknowledged that "people love them" so she marked them a festive slay.

She explained: "We don't want to take away things that people love."

When it comes to gifts, Mariah ruled nay on gift cards.

She said: "I don't think people like that anymore."

But she is open to unwrapping lingerie from under the tree.

She said: "If people want it."

The 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' singer enjoys indulging in a festive tipple.

She said: "Occasionally, I'm going to take a sip of eggnog. I mean, because it's eggnog. It's Christmas...

"I have my Black Irish that I like much better than that."
