Halfback Shaun Johnson is confident the Kiwis will be better for their opening Pacific Championships hit-out against Australia

New Zealand squares off against Tonga at Mt Smart tonight, needing to win to make next weekend's final against Australia in Sydney.

Called out of retirement to be the Kiwis chief playmaker, Johnson is personally happy with his improving fitness.

The Kiwis have won their last six Tests at Mt Smart and hold a 6-1 winning record over Tonga.
