New Zealand has had a deadly weekend around water

New Zealand has had a deadly weekend around water

At least three people have died - including a child found unresponsive at a Lower Hutt Park, and a person who jumped off a boat near Whakatane.

Emergency services were also called to a person needing help on Wellington's Eastbourne Beach - but they were unable to be saved.

And a man remains missing after jumping from Hamilton's Puketi Bridge into the Waikato River, on Saturday night.

Water Safety NZ chief executive Daniel Gerrard says they're worried about the summer ahead.

He understands there could be some decision fatigue at this time of the year, but he's urging people to make good choices in and around water.
