Taylor Swift's fans are stricken with an "emotional hangover" in the wake of the singer's global 'Eras Tour' ending

The performer, 35, wrapped up the marathon show run on 8 December after 149 shows, and an expert has now warned Taylor's followers will have been hit with a severe mental reaction to the end of their hero's stint on the road.

Lila Davachi, professor of psychology and neuroscience at Columbia University, told USA Today: "When you are having an emotional experience - it can be negative, it can be positive - in the case of a Taylor Swift concert it's extremely positive, and that in essence creates a brain state.

"And the emotional hangover, if you will, is that our brains can be trained.

"Fans may have trained themselves to organise their days and experiences around the ('Eras') tour, so they have a structure for something that's now missing, and that could make them feel bad."

USA Today reported Taylor's fans have shared symptoms of depression in the wake of the end of 'The Eras Tour'.

Taylor 'superfan' Tess Bohne told the publication: "The excitement of hearing 'Applause' play at the start of the show, seeing the clock and Taylor popping up is gone.

"It was like a scheduled dopamine high, having those each week."

The warning comes as it emerged Taylor handed all her 'Eras Tour' staff a $100,000 bonus before they took the show out of the US.

The singer is famed for her massive extra payouts to her workers during her tours, and a crew member on her sold-out 'Eras' run has now revealed they got the life-changing amount along with a handwritten note from the performer.

Her note, addressed to a staffer named Robert, was shared by him online, and said: "Thank you for you superb work on the U.S. leg of 'The Eras Tour'!! "Your well-deserved bonus is $100,000. Love, Taylor."

Taylor performed the last show of her record-breaking 'Eras' world tour in Vancouver, Canada, on 8 December.

It was reported 10.1 million of her fans attended 149 shows during its run, with experts saying the shows added $13 to $28 billion to the worldwide economy.
