Katherine Ryan has shared an update from her hospital bed after undergoing surgery following a cancer diagnosis

The 41-year-old comedian, known for her stand-up and appearances on panel shows including '8 Out of 10 Cats' and Netflix's 'Glitter Room', revealed earlier this week she has been battling skin cancer and recently underwent her second operation after being diagnosed with melanoma

She has now told fans on Instagram about her condition: "This is going so well by the way and should heal flat."

Her message was a reference to an image of her swollen arm attached to a drip.

Katherine first became concerned in 2022 and pushed for further testing after noticing changes in a mole, stressing that if she had not spoken up, the issue might have been overlooked.

It is her second melanoma diagnosis - the first occurring when she was 21.

According to the NHS, melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread to other parts of the body.

The health service states symptoms may include the appearance of a new mole or changes in an existing mole.

Katherine said she did not accept her doctor's initial opinion about her mole because it kept changing. She explained on her podcast 'Telling Everybody Everything': "The mole kept changing, I know a lot about melanoma, I had stage two melanoma as a very young woman - aged 21 - on my leg, I've spoken about that before."

Katherine added: "But even when he looked at it, he was like, 'It's not melanoma, it's totally fine, I will do a shave and send it away for testing.'"

The comic insisted on further testing despite the doctor's reassurances.

After the mole was removed, she requested a larger portion be excised and closed up with a straight stitch.

She said she was later called back with confirmation that the mole was cancerous.

Katherine added: "It's early melanoma and (the doctor) was shocked because it doesn't look like melanoma but it is.

"He said, 'You need to come back on Monday,' which I don't have time on Monday but luckily he gave me some time in the afternoon."

Katherine also said she returned to the doctor after seeing Teddi Mellencamp from 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' discuss her experience with melanoma.
