The coroner is making recommendations to Maritime New Zealand after a 40-year-old's death on Taranaki's Waitara River

The coroner is making recommendations to Maritime New Zealand after a 40-year-old's death on Taranaki's Waitara River

Patricia Wilson Wirihana Takanini sustained fatal head injuries in late 2021, after she came off a ski biscuit and was flung into a concrete bridge pillar.

The jet ski towing the teacher was exceeding the speed limit of five knots when it approached the bridge.

The coroner's findings released today says her death demonstrates the life-saving importance of speed limits.

It recommends Maritime NZ ensures signage is affixed and visible where necessary on rivers nationwide.
