Gloria Estefan says "laughter" is the secret to her long and happy marriage

The 68-year-old music legend has been married to her husband Emilio, 72, for 47 years, and she admitted the past five decades have "gone very quickly".

Asked about the "key to longevity", she told The Jennifer Hudson Show: "[He] makes me laugh every day, sometimes not even meaning to. He's a very funny dude."

She also described her husband as "very absent-minded and a little crazy".

Gloria took a moment to reflect on his proposal on February 12, 1978, when her now-husband "had the ring burning a hole in his pocket", and "couldn't wait" until Valentine's Day.

She awoke from a nap with Emilio and his mother both in the room, and he presented her with the engagement ring.

Gloria quipped: "I'm thinking, do I kiss you? Do I kiss your mother?"

Earlier this month, the couple marked their 47th wedding anniversary and revealed a surprise he planned for her.

On September 2, Gloria shared a photo of a handwritten note on a table, with a small gold heart, while a framed picture of them kissing could be seen in the background.

The letter read: "Love you! To forever. 47 more to come. Love, baby."

She captioned the post: "One of the many reasons I love you so much! Happy 47th Anniversary, mi morito lindo! I love you forever!"

The day before, Emilio shared a heartfelt tribute to Gloria on her 68th birthday.

He wrote: "After 47 years by your side, I continue to give thanks for the incredible family we have built and for having found in you the greatest gift of my life.

"It has been a blessing to share this journey with you, a woman I deeply admire.

"May God continue to bless us with health to enjoy our family and our career together. Happy birthday and happy early anniversary!"
