A Wellington Four Square that sold 3.8 tonnes of poppy seed within a year is fighting for permission to sell alcohol again

The Aro Valley Four Square had its liquor licence renewal declined last year, partly due to the belief poppy seed sales weren't seen as food product sales.
The local licensing authority claimed poppy seed can be used to produce a tea that contains an opioid content that contributes to psychoactive effects.
The store's owner is now appealing to have its liquor license restored, arguing the business will go under without the ability to sell alcohol.
