The family of the officers shot by an offender in West Auckland are very shaken up

The family of the officers shot by an offender in West Auckland are very shaken up

At a routine traffic stop this morning in Massey, one officer was shot dead, and another remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Police Association president Chris Cahill says it's not something the family members expected to hear - even though they are aware of the risks.

He says they are feeling it - but they are also feeling the support from the Police community.

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster is expected to give an update on the incident shortly.
