More Christchurch troops are being sent to help flood victims on the West Coast

Defence Force personnel from Burnham Military Camp are assisting with road cordons and accessing hard-to-reach homes in the Westport area.

A spokesman says another 10 staff are being flown into the region this afternoon by a Royal New Zealand Air Force helicopter.

They'll be based at emergency centres in Greymouth and Westport.
