Medical and postgraduate students are facing high level of depression and burnout

Medical and postgraduate students are facing high level of depression and burnout

Otago University researchers have been following 140 students at the university's Christchurch campus.

Their findings -- published in today's New Zealand Medical Journal -- show roughly one third of students reported clinical symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress, while over three quarters reported burnout.

Lead Researcher Katherine Donovan says the data is alarming.

She says there are ways universities can help, but there's also things students can do to change their habits.
