Canterbury motorists are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel because of poor conditions

Canterbury motorists are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel because of poor conditions

A rescue mission's underway in Porter's Pass, after 30 vehicles became trapped by snow on State Highway 73.

Police say anyone who has to travel should ensure they are doing so with appropriate equipment, such as snow chains.

NZTA says State Highway 73's closed between Springfield and Castle Hill, and a warning's in place between Otira and Castle Hill.
