The Taxpayers Union is declaring voting rights for unelected youth councillors are undemocratic

The Taxpayers Union is declaring voting rights for unelected youth councillors are undemocratic

Hastings District Council has voted to give its Youth Council voting rights on committees - but not full council meetings.

They'll get a form of payment and be able to vote until at least the next local body elections.

Union spokesperson, Jordan Williams was on the Hastings Youth Council himself.

But he claims this goes too far - giving voting rights to people who've never paid rent or seen a rates bill.
