The Chair of Parliament's Finance Committee - says questions remain for the big banks

The Chair of Parliament's Finance Committee - says questions remain for the big banks

ANZ's Chief Executive was among those grilled by MPs this morning, under pressure to justify a two-billion-dollar-profit, at a time Kiwis are doing it tough.

Antonia Watson said profits are at the level required to get shareholders to invest.

Stuart Smith says he isn't convinced.

He says ANZ has a 12.6 percent return on equity, which he considers high given it's low-risk -- and New Zealand banks haven't lost money in 29 years.
