Nelson is expressing condolences and mourning the loss of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming, a policewoman killed on duty

Nelson is expressing condolences and mourning the loss of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming, a policewoman killed on duty

A vehicle drove into her and another officer in the early hours of the morning, after New Years Eve celebrations near the Buxton Square carpark.

The vehicle then rammed a Police car, before the driver was taken into custody.

Senior Sergeant Adam Ramsay, who suffered critical injuries, is now stable after surgery.

Flowers are being left outside the local police station, and a condolences book's been set up at Nelson Cathedral.

Those at the New Zealand and Sri Lanka cricket match in Nelson, gathered to honour Fleming's life in a moment shown on TVNZ.

The announcer described Fleming as an experienced officer - a daughter, a wife, and a mother - before a moment's silence was observed.
