The father of a 17-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash last October, says his son's life could have been spared - if he hadn't worn a dark-tinted visor

Phoenix Boltar died while being pursued by police for speeding at night near Dairy Flat.

In a letter to Coroner Ian Telford, Andre Boltar says his son made some bad decisions, but believes the visor was the overriding factor.

Coroner Telford says Boltar's case draws attention to a lesser known risk, that tinted visors or goggles should never be worn at night.

Telford's recommending all motorcyclists, and parents of young riders review NZTA advice.
