A woman whose husband died in the Auckland Anniversary floods believes an emergency mobile alert could've spared his life

A woman whose husband died in the Auckland Anniversary floods believes an emergency mobile alert could've spared his life

Coroner Erin Woolley's hearing evidence regarding flood deaths in Auckland and Waikato, and during Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023.

58-year-old Dave Young, who died in Onewhero when he was swept away by floodwaters, is one of four Auckland Anniversary flood deaths of focus.

Jane Glover, counsel assisting bereft families, says his wife believes her and her husband went into the weather oblivious.

But local Emergency Management group controller Julian Snowball says an alert would've gone to too wide an area, and closing the road would've been more appropriate.
