Canterbury residents are being advised to avoid the Wainono Lagoon after toxic algae was found there

Canterbury residents are being advised to avoid the Wainono Lagoon after toxic algae was found there

The region's DHB says it can cause skin rashes, nausea, cramps and tingling and numbness around the mouth and finger tips.

Boiling the water does not remove the toxin.

The lagoon will be monitored weekly for any changes in water quality.
