Shane Reti's backing Health New Zealand bosses -- despite the agency reporting a deficit of nearly a billion dollars for the past financial year

Yesterday it released its report for the three-months to June.

Earlier, in quarter three, a 299-million-dollar surplus was forecast - but, the preliminary financial result for the year to the end of June is a 934-million-dollar deficit.

The Health Minister replaced the agency's board with a Commissioner in July, and says he trusts its leadership.

He says the cost blowout was substantively in the hands of the previous team.
