Improvements to rural emergency medication access and HIV treatment dispensing is kicking into gear from today

Improvements to rural emergency medication access and HIV treatment dispensing is kicking into gear from today

Pharmac's extending access to emergency and trauma treatments, beyond hospitals and paramedics to health practitioners such as GPs and midwives, in remote areas.

The drug buying agency says this will reduce imbalances in health care that existed between city and country areas.

All HIV medicines are also getting an accessibility boost.

They're now able to be dispensed in three-month amounts - rather than just monthly.

A third change coming into force will see treatment available to those who've had a bad reaction to iron infusions.
