It's going to be a wet and windy start to the week for many parts of the country

It's going to be a wet and windy start to the week for many parts of the country

Rain is forecast for most parts of the country -- with warnings in place for Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, western Bay of Plenty, Nelson, and southern Westland.

MetService has also issued a wind warning for Auckland and Fiordland.

Duty forecaster Dan Corrigan says people need to take care -- particularly in Auckland.

He says people need to stay safe and drive to the conditions when heading to work.

Auckland can expect up to 80 millimetres of rain, with northeast winds reaching up to 100 kilometres per hour, especially in eastern areas.
