Papatoetoe residents feel they've hit a brick wall, trying to get tornado repairs done during lockdown

Papatoetoe residents feel they've hit a brick wall, trying to get tornado repairs done during lockdown

Ben says fixes couldn't start on his roof, which still isn't secure, until a few days before Alert Level Four because of a shortage of builders and insurance processes.

Under the Covid-19 health order, MBIE says building and construction can go ahead during lockdown to address immediate risks to health and safety.

Ben says his insurance company doesn't agree repairs should continue.

He believes another gust of wind could easily cause further damage.

Ben says they aren't in the worst of circumstances and there are certainly risks to person or property.

AA Insurance says it's able to do emergency and critical repairs for customers.
