A heavy rain warning is in place for Bay of Plenty, while strong wind watches for the South Island are being eased

A heavy rain warning is in place for Bay of Plenty, while strong wind watches for the South Island are being eased

An Orange Heavy Rain Warning remains in place for eastern Bay of Plenty and the Gisborne ranges until midday.

This may cause some rivers and streams to rapidly rise, with the possibility of surface flooding and slips.

MetService meteorologist Daniel Corrigan says strong wind watches for Marlborough and the Canterbury High Country are no longer in place.

He says there were some strong gusts in the South Island overnight and early this morning.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.
